How to defend homeschooling gracefully! How to Answer When You Defend Homeschooling

If you are asked to defend homeschooling, take a moment to consider the reason behind the question before responding.

If the inquiry comes from genuine confusion or curiosity, respond patiently and positively.

Many people have misperceptions about homeschooling due to hearsay or the media.

You can highlight the benefits of homeschooling such as building strong family relationships, teaching without political correctness, having flexible schedules, and more opportunities for travel.

Remember to be patient with those you are talking with as they may have had different experiences that have led them to their views.

If the questioner has no intention of being persuaded, try to redirect the conversation.

However, if the attack persists, consider questioning the attacker’s underlying assumptions to better understand their perspective.

For instance, when asked if homeschooling is cruel, ask them to explain what makes them think that way, and why they believe that school is better than homeschooling.

Defend Homeschooling But Preserve the Relationship!

When it comes to defending homeschooling, don’t let your emotions get the best of you.

After all, you don’t want to turn a friendly debate into a family feud.

Keep your cool and aim for a peaceful resolution.

Think of it this way: your relationship with your in-laws and friends is like a delicate plant that needs to be nurtured and cared for.

One wrong move, and it could wither away into oblivion.

So, choose your words carefully and avoid any unnecessary conflict.

I know it can be hard, but sometimes a little bit of sweetness goes a long way.

I once had a homeschool-hating acquaintance who I couldn’t stand, but after showering her with kindness and patience, we became fast friends, and she even started homeschooling herself!

So, remember, when it comes to defending homeschooling, be the bigger person and show the world what homeschool moms are made of – grace, patience, and a whole lot of love.

Defend Homeschooling By Outlining the Benefits of Home Education

It’s no secret that homeschooling can be a controversial topic.

But let’s be honest, a lot of people just don’t understand the benefits of this educational choice.

So, let’s break it down for them.

  • Homeschooling allows for a more tailored educational experience. Your child can learn at their own pace and focus on their interests. Plus, you can adjust your teaching style to best fit your child’s learning style.
  • It provides a safer learning environment. No more worrying about bullying, peer pressure, or dangerous school environments. Your child can learn in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by a supportive and loving family.
  • Homeschooling can be more flexible. You can work around your family’s schedule and take advantage of learning opportunities outside of traditional school hours.
  • It can help strengthen family relationships. Spending more time together and learning together can create a stronger bond between parent and child.
  • Also, it allows for a more closely followed religious belief system without outside influence. You can integrate your faith into your curriculum and ensure your child is learning values that align with your family’s beliefs.

So, next time someone questions your decision to homeschool, remember these benefits and defend your choice with confidence!

Your Child’s Beautiful Character Will Speak Volumes

If you really want to show off the benefits of homeschooling, just let your kids be themselves!

Their kindness, generosity, and good behavior will speak for itself and show what a great choice homeschooling has been for your family.

Of course, you don’t want to come across as bragging about your kids or putting down other children.

Instead, subtly point out how your children’s behavior stands out compared to the majority of school-aged children.

And if your kids used to attend school, you can easily compare their behavior then to now.

But you don’t have to take my word for it – even strangers on the playground have been impressed by the behavior of homeschooled children!

And when faced with hostility, remember that actions speak louder than words.

So let your child’s beautiful character do the talking for you.

Why I’m So Gentle With People Who Attack Me

I like to think of it as the golden rule of do-unto-others-as-we-would-have-them-do-to-us.

Also, if I want people to be kind to me despite my flaws, then it’s only fair that I do the same for them.

The reason behind my gentle treatment of those who attack me is rooted in the grace I have received from God. Through His love and sacrifice, I have been forgiven and redeemed, and it is my desire to extend that same grace and love to others, even when they do not deserve it.

As a follower of Christ, I am called to love my enemies and bless those who curse me, just as Christ loved and blessed those who persecuted Him. It is not a law of self-preservation that motivates me, but rather a desire to reflect the love and mercy of God in all of my interactions.

Though I may fall short at times and struggle to show grace in the face of adversity, I am reminded that Christ’s love is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in my weakness. Through Him, I am empowered to love and forgive even those who may seek to harm me, and to extend the same measure of grace that has been given to me.

Most adults don't particularly want to relive their schooling experience on a daily basis. They would gladly move on to a new life devoid of homework and teachers. Very, very few adults will passionately blog about their schooling some 15 years after graduating. This makes Rebecca Devitt somewhat unique. As it happens, she was homeschooled. And she loved it. Still does. And she wishes every kid could get a taste of homeschooling at its very best. Her website How Do I Homeschool, is a springboard for parents to see what a life of homeschooling could be for both them & their children. When she's not blogging Rebecca is still homeschooling her-adult-self by learning Latin, growing weird vegetables and most importantly looking after her two children Luke & Penny. She has a husband Tristan and is a participant at Wollongong Baptist Church. She's also written a book about why parents should homeschool called 'Why on Earth Homeschool'.
