My Father’s World Curriculum Review: A Christian Mom’s Honest Take

The My Father’s World curriculum is popular among Christian homeschooling families. Based on several homeschooling methodologies, the program gathers followers from those who love the Classical, Charlotte Mason, and relaxed homeschooling styles. It also attracts many Christian families who want to give their children a rigorous yet fun education at home. 

I’ve used My Father’s World Kindergarten with my own children, and we bought the complete package—so this is not one of those reviews based on staring at three sample pages and feeling spiritually qualified to comment. 😅

We’ve used it on and off and are still happily working through the books, which are genuinely lovely. Many come from other publishers, including Master Books, so My Father’s World feels a bit like someone gathered a pile of excellent Christian homeschool resources, sorted them into a sensible order and saved you from opening 47 browser tabs. 📚

It is Christian, literature-rich, hands-on and family-centred, with elements of Charlotte Mason, unit studies and classical education.

It also contains plenty of crafts. ✂️

My advice? Skip the crafts that make you groan.

Your child will still receive an education even if you decide not to build Noah’s Ark from cereal boxes before lunch.

We now use BJU Press as our core curriculum because our family prefers something a little more structured and academic. But we still enjoy our My Father’s World books, and I would happily recommend the full curriculum—especially for preschool, Kindergarten and the early primary years.

Alongside my own experience, I read more than 50 comments from Christian homeschool parents who had used My Father’s World. Some loved it for years; others lasted roughly long enough to locate the glue sticks.

I’m also drawing on more than a decade of researching Christian homeschool curricula, so this review will help you work out whether My Father’s World is a beautiful fit for your family—or a very expensive way to discover that nobody in your house enjoys crafts.

About My Father’s World Homeschool Curriculum 🌍

My Father’s World is a Christian homeschool curriculum that combines Classical education, Charlotte Mason ideas and unit studies into one family-centred program.

We bought and used the full Kindergarten package, and we are still enjoying many of the books. A lot of the resources come from other publishers, so MFW feels a little like someone gathered a stack of excellent Christian homeschool materials and organised them before you had time to open 47 tabs. 📚

Their website lists ten things that make their program unique, including:

1. Bible concepts integrated across subjects, so God is not confined to one lesson and then politely removed before science begins.
2. Parents involved in their children’s education, including family devotions and shared lessons.
3. The ability to teach multiple children of different ages together.
4. Hands-on learning through experiments, activities and projects.
5. The use of living books and wholesome classical literature.
6. Lessons designed to leave time for ordinary family life, outings and field trips.
7. A relatively affordable program, particularly when several children learn together.
8. Preplanned lessons, so you do not have to reinvent the educational wheel every Sunday evening.
9. A focus on character development, which fits well with Charlotte Mason education.
10. A commitment to supporting missions around the world, including Bible translation work.

The main attraction is that MFW brings Bible, literature, history, geography, science and hands-on learning together rather than treating every subject like a lonely island.

However, it is not a perfect fit for every family.

Some Christian homeschool mothers love the books, family learning and Bible integration. Others find it too gentle, scattered or craft-heavy.

My advice is simple: use the wonderful books, keep the activities your children enjoy and skip the crafts that make you want to hide the glue gun. ✂️

Like many homeschooling curricula, MFW is least expensive in younger grades such as preschool and most costly in older grades.

It’s considered to be a moderately priced curriculum.

Pros of My Father’s World 🌍

After reading feedback from more than 50 Christian homeschool parents, the overall response was surprisingly positive. Many families had used My Father’s World for years and planned to continue.

✅ Strong Christian worldview
Bible is woven throughout the curriculum rather than appearing once a day and then quietly disappearing before science begins. ✝️

✅ Hands-on and engaging
Unit studies, crafts, experiments, nature walks and weekly themes make it especially appealing to kinesthetic learners—and children who believe pencils should only be used in emergencies.

✅ Excellent books
Parents repeatedly praised the literature. The books are engaging, memorable and often enjoyable for the parent too—which is useful when you are reading the same story aloud for the seventeenth time. 📚

✅ Designed for multiple children
Many subjects can be taught together, making MFW attractive for larger families and saving parents from teaching three separate history lessons before lunch.

✅ Everything is planned
The schedule and teacher’s guide tell you what to do each day, so you do not have to invent an entire education every Sunday evening.

✅ Encourages curiosity and outdoor learning
Charlotte Mason-inspired elements such as nature walks and living books help children explore ideas beyond worksheets.

✅ Easy to adapt
Several parents shortened lessons, skipped activities or completed the program faster than scheduled. My advice remains: skip any craft that causes immediate spiritual discouragement. ✂️

Many parents genuinely loved My Father’s World, particularly in the preschool, Kindergarten and early primary years. It seems to suit families who want warm, biblical, book-rich learning—and do not mind occasionally discovering glue on the dining table.

Cons of My Father’s World ❌

No curriculum pleases everyone—not even the ones with beautiful books and reassuringly organised teacher guides.

❌ Too gentle for some children
Several parents felt My Father’s World was too easy, particularly for advanced learners or families wanting a more rigorous academic pace.

❌ May need supplementing
Some parents added extra maths, language arts or science because they wanted more depth. Others supplemented simply because homeschoolers apparently struggle to leave a perfectly adequate curriculum alone. 📚

❌ The weekly schedule can be awkward
The plan is organised by week, which is lovely until somebody gets sick on Tuesday and the whole timetable begins leaning sideways.

❌ Notebooking did not suit everyone
Some families loved it. Others found it repetitive or simply not a good fit for their child.

❌ Library trips may be required
Depending on the level, families may need to borrow additional books regularly.

This is either a delightful excuse to visit the library or one more errand involving children who suddenly need the toilet the moment you arrive. 🚗

❌ Some activities can feel repetitive
A few parents found certain lessons or projects repeated more than necessary.

A Few Neutral Things to Know 🤷‍♀️

Most criticism centred on MFW being too gentle rather than too difficult.

For some families, that is a disadvantage. For others, it means shorter school days, less stress and the ability to complete lessons ahead of schedule.

One mother said her family sometimes completed two weeks of work in one week, giving them longer breaks later.

So, “too easy” may mean not challenging enough—or it may mean we finished before lunch and went outside. Your family gets to decide which one sounds more appealing.

Overall, I do not think the cons outweigh the benefits.

I would still recommend My Father’s World, especially for families who want Christian, literature-rich, hands-on learning in the early years.

Just remember: you are allowed to adapt it. The schedule is a guide, not a legally binding covenant.

American History

My Father’s World is written primarily for American families, so its history courses naturally focus heavily on the United States.

That will suit most American homeschoolers perfectly. Families elsewhere may need to add their own country’s history—because apparently the rest of us also had things happening. 😄

Is My Father’s World Accredited?

No. But this is not unusual because homeschool curricula CAN NOT be accredited. If you study in an online school like Abeka Academy or Acellus Academy, you study an accredited course. But if you do, you’re not technically homeschooling – you’re actually studying with an online school.
