Why on earth would a parent choose to homeschool their children when you have free education on offer in public schools?
Here we look at the reasons parents homeschool which include:
- better academic outcomes
- more time with parents
- better relationships with family (including siblings)
- more time for extracurricular activities
- the ability to promote personal beliefs such as your Christian beliefs
- time to work on entrepreneurial ventures
- get away from bullying, peer pressure, and other negative school influences
- more potential for engagement with nature
- giving children a better environment for becoming an elite athlete or inventor
- a quieter less stressful environment for all children including those with special needs such as autism
- the ability to work at your own pace – great for gifted children or children who are intellectually impaired.
- a better environment for teaching life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and gardening
- more interaction with people of different ages as children aren’t stuck in a class with children all their own age.
- less irritable children as they get more rest (especially important for teenagers and probably the reason homeschoolers have great academic scores)
- the ability to promote a biblical worldview – children will be brainwashed by someone – it might as well be you!
